About Dr Mel Claxton

I have worked as a Senior Clinical Psychologist in the NHS (mainly in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services, CAMHS) and in independent practice. I work as an Honorary Clinical Teaching Fellow at University College London (UCL).

I have supported people with mental health difficulties for the past 20 years in a variety of roles, including working within the NHS (where I worked for around 17 years).  I qualified as a Clinical Psychologist, gaining my doctoral degree from University College London (UCL), in 2015.

I work with all ages, but typically with young people 11-25 years of age. I also work with parents from the perinatal period and beyond. I am experienced in providing psychological assessment, therapy, supervision, consultation and training. I run parenting groups and workshops.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professionals Council (HCPC).

I am trained in a variety of therapeutic approaches and frequently draw upon: Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR).
